  • Know where you feel most comfortable hitting.  Do you like high pitches or low, inside or outside?  Go to the batting cages and find out.  Once you know this, be patient and more selective to improve your chances of getting a hit.
  • Make sure you are accelerate the bat through the ball as you hit it.  The faster the bat speed, the harder you hit.
  • Keeping your weight on your back foot will enable you keep a balanced swing and get better hip rotation.  This will give you a stronger swing.  If you look at some great batters, you'll see that they have their front feet barely touching the ground.
  • Keep a loose grip on the bat.  Tension in your hands will slow the bat speed.
  • Keep your eye on the ball.  Watch the bat go through the ball so you can make minor height and speed adjustments.
  • Hit the ball just out in front of you with the ball contacting the sweet spot of the bat
  • Some people suggest hitting with your pinky off the edge of the bat.  This is supposed to increase your bat speed.  It just hurts my pinky, but it may work for you.
  • Batspeed.com has some comprehensive advice on hitting techniques.  Check out the links on the right side of the page for suggestions.
