Zombie Glut – June 15th Game

All you zombies hide your faces

All you zombies in the street

All you sitting in high places

The rain’s gonna fall on you.

I’ll buy a beer for anyone who can name the band who wrote this song.  NO LOOKING IT UP ON THE INTERNET!!

The B61 Lineup

The Game

What’s better than this?  JJ set up our first inter-league scrimmage (very appropriate for June, except this doesn’t affect our record.)  Just a good no-pressure game with the fun team Zombie Hut.  This is the way softball is supposed to be.  Just here to swing away and drink some beer.

Jeff, our fan from last game, had a brief moral debate before defecting over to the Hut to play center field.  Something for Jamie to aim for.  Jeff even had the nerve to talk trash.  “B61’s got a fat tire??”  Hey, it’s better than “Jack be nimble.”

After some intense team discussions by the Hut, they took the field.  Their pitcher – a Jersey girl ( always close to my heart) with a fast pitch who knew how to use it.  Three pitches, three outs.  You read that right.  Ok.  Never saw that before.  So, B61 takes the field.  Three pitches, three outs.  SO, let’s see. That’s 6 pitches with 6 outs.  Jamie goes up and takes pitch 7 out of the ballpark for a solo homerun.  That’s seven pitches, six outs and one homerun for those not paying attention.  What a way to start.  B61 starts clocking the ball as we go completely through the lineup.  Jamie even gets a second homerun before they retire the side.  9-0.

And so it went.  We got a lot of runs, and they played well.  If we weren’t both enjoying ourselves there might have been a slaughter rule, but it didn’t matter.  We just played ball.  We even gave the Hut four outs for a couple of innings so they could get more hitting, and we could get more practice.  Andrew earned his new nickname “Snowcone” because whenever he caught the ball, it would always end up at the very tip of his glove as if it were going to fall out.

Adam did a great job as ump.  I didn’t realize that umps could actually run along the lines to get a better view of the plays.  That’s some dedication.  Plus, no pitching advice in between innings to toy with my head.  Did anyone else know that he wanted to go to umpire school in Florida?

Final score?  We all had a good time.  Let’s do it again.  I heard we’re going to mix up the teams next time.  Bring it on.

Memorable Moments

Player of the Game

I didn’t think I would ever do this, but I was told to put myself as player of the game.  It could be because I went five for five with a double, a triple, and three homeruns.  It could be because I didn’t walk any girls.  It’s probably because I bought those Irish car bombs back at the bar.
